Pack up your epi-pen: It’s back to school again
There is nothing more stressful for a parent than sending their child off to school with a severe peanut allergy. Protect your peanut, a Langley based business, has created a Peanut Allergy Awareness bracelet that will immediately identify a child with a peanut allergy.
Langley, BC – September 1st, 2009 - It’s usually the most wonderful time of the year for parents who are tired of hearing “I’m bored!” all summer long, but for those who have kids with peanut allergies, back to school means ‘back to stress’. Protect Your Peanut, a small business created by two Langley moms, is trying to eliminate some of that stress by creating a child’s allergy awareness bracelet that is immediately recognizable and identifiable. The bright red bracelets will fit a child’s wrist, and can be altered to fit preschoolers as well.
It’s a modern twist on the medical alert bracelet, but this wristband will tell others, even if they are 10 feet away, that a child with a bright red wrist band has a peanut allergy. “We feel it will cut down on the response time if your child has a reaction on the playground” says founder Kim Langford. “Imagine if your child was having an anaphylactic reaction and the playground monitor didn’t know he or she had a peanut allergy. One look at that bracelet will have them running for an Epi-pen, and it will happen much faster than if they had to spend time assessing the situation.”
The Peanut Allergy Awareness bracelets are bright red with bold printing that states “Peanut Allergy” “Epi Pen” and “Medical Alert”. Keep them on your child’s wrist at school or a birthday party so other parents will know that he or she has an allergy immediately. You won’t have to take them aside to tell them or worry that you should have kept your child at home. Langford continues, “We’d like to spread the word that a bright red wrist band indicates a peanut allergy. No child should have to be left behind because of their allergy, and this is the best way to draw immediate attention to the issue.”
