Protein Splice May Cure Allergy Woes
by Nell Greenfieldboyce March 27, 2005 Allergy sufferers may soon have relief from some of their ailments as a result of new protein studies, researchers say. Scientists have fused an allergen, a protein that provokes a reaction in some people, with a protein that turns off the immune system's reaction. After researchers injected the hybrid protein into mice that were allergic to cats, the mice overcame their usual allergic reaction. NPR's Nell Boyce reports. |
